What is Mobile Science Education?

Mobile Science Education is a South Australian based, science education support service that comes to you. It has been operating since the beginning of 2007 and had a very succesful first year, with shows and programs presented in schools to over 4500 students and teachers across South Australia, as well as many more as a part of public events.

Who is Mobile Science Education?

Mobile Science Education is wholly owned and operated by Lee Harrison (B.Sc, Dip. Ed.) - an experienced science presenter and entertainer. He worked on stage as a professional singer with the State Opera of South Australia for several seasons, and in high schools as a specialist science teacher. Until November '06 he was Science on the Go™ coordinator for The Investigator Science and Technology Centre™ - a job which sent him all over South Australia to interact with schools, teachers and students of all sizes, resources and abilities.

When The Investigator closed in late 2006 he decided to continue to spread the good word about science!

The Mission

  • raising the profile of science and technology in the minds of young people
  • getting children and their parents engaged with the thought processes of science and the excitement of discovery - not just the long lists of dry facts that science sometimes boils down to
  • provision of first-class Professional Development to teachers to help them boost science literacy in their schools
  • spreading the idea that to be called a nerd or a geek is one of the greatest compliments anyone can be paid – there is nothing wrong with being smart, interested in the world, and having people notice that.
