An introduction to the science of light, sound and senses. Students work in pairs to explore light, mixing colours, reflections, sounds, volume, materials and our senses of sight and hearing. This is hands-on, eyes-on, and ears-on learning. Activities include reinforcing the importance of sight by attempting to identify unknown objects using only the senses of touch and hearing; investigating light, colours and shadows using coloured torches to mix coloured lights; investigating different ways of making sounds by building their own drums, box guitars and shakers; investigate how the pitch and volume of sounds can be changed by different materials; building ‘clucking cups’ to investigate how the size of the cup can change the sounds produced. Our presenter will also demonstrate the light spectrum and the inside of a model eye, explore the inside of a 4 times life-size model ear and (if time allows) bring light, sound and a mirror together to make sound vibrations visible.

Requirements:

A classroom with tables, access to electricity, and a cleared space at the front. Parent helpers for the younger classes would be appreciated.

3 sessions in one full day:

Disadvantaged Schools (Category 1- 4):

-$37 + GST per session, no other discounts apply, does not apply to travel costs.

 

Payments:

Your school will be invoiced prior to our visit. Payment is due via cash, cheque or bank transfer within 7 days of the first session listed on the invoice.
