There are currently three professional development sessions available. Each runs for 90 minutes and is available as a stand-alone session, or as part of a whole day.

Each teacher attending will receive a resource CD-ROM to keep. As well as containing all information presented in the sessions, included on the CD will be set of detailed instructions and templates for creating 11 different science-based toys to use in the classroom.

Any school booking all three sessions in one day will also receive a book of science investigations that can be done with simple materials, any of which could form the basis of an ongoing science unit.

Demistifying Science in the Classroom

An exploration of the role of science in the Primary classroom and current challenges and strengths in Australian primary science teaching. Examples of good and bad science education resources will be included.

Practical Science - how 'why' affects 'what'

Explores the roles of practical work and communication in the science class, and how the expected role affects the form of the practical delivery. This session is aimed at getting students to start engaging with and communicating science, rather than simply ‘receiving’ science. Examples of investigations will be included.

Science Toybox

A collection of simple on-the-ground tips, demonstrations and methods that will help you to spark an interest in science among your students, as well as a look at how to capitalise on that interest. The focus will be on getting students interested by making science ‘physical’ again, while keeping material costs down.

Payments:

Your school will be invoiced prior to our visit. Payment is due via cash, cheque or bank transfer within 7 days of the first session listed on the invoice.
